Nikon / Callaway LR550 Golf Rangefinder Bright Yellow – Mens Edition Reviews

Review by PA Hacker: 5 Nikon Golf Range Finder Reviews

319ZUk3lOdL. SL75 Nikon Golf Range Finder ReviewsI tried an inexpensive GPS rangefinder (iGolf Neo), but found its readings inconsistent. I was reluctant to try the more expensive GPS rangefinders, and the laser rangefinders were also quite expensive. I then ran across the LR550Y and was impressed by reviews, the reputation of Nikon quality, and a reasonable price (0). It’s a solid product that performs well.

The unit is light and easy to handle. It will fit in a reasonably big pocket. The colors make it easy to not forget it in the cart (though this also makes it conspicuous and easy for thieves to spot – be careful!). The eyepiece adjusts easily for a sharp view, and the unit is also handy as a 6x monocular on the course. With a little practice it is easy to use. I cannot hold it steady enough to get the crosshairs directly on the flag for a reading unless I’m within 100 yards. At larger distances you put the crosshairs on a reflective area on or near the green, depress the button, and then slowly sweep the crosshairs over the pin. (you have about 8 seconds of sweep readings). The numbers will change as you go over the flag and you have your reading. It doesn’t hurt to double check with distance readings from other course markers.

This is a quality item that can increase your confidence that you have the right club, though it can’t swing the club for you.

Review by Kosta Vangeloff: 5 Nikon Golf Range Finder Reviews

21FFS17CH7L. SL75 Nikon Golf Range Finder ReviewsI don’t understand people talking bad about this rangefinder who are using it for golf.

Do you use a fork to eat soup?

The difference between a hunting rangefinder and golfing rangefinder is a hunting is made to look for the farthest object instead of shrubs, trees, thicket that may be in the way of your target. (You are usually hunting in the woods and don’t need the range for the closest tree)

Golfing rangefinders are programmed to find the distance of the closest object since objects shouldn’t be obtructing your view of the tee.

This is a very simple to use rangefinder and great for hunting game.

**************

Only buttons are power/scan button and mode button.

Hold mode while finder is on to change between yards or meters.

Press the power button to turn on. Acquire your target and press again for reading or hold it to scan objects in the distance.

Unit powers down in 8 seconds if no action is taken.

*Pros

Simple

Accurate

WORKS

*Cons

Eye relief could be larger for those who wear glasses (if you don’t…not a problem)

Conclusion: Great rangefinder at a great price (comes with nice belt carry bag too!) If you are looking for a golf rangefinder….look elsewhere because this is NOT one.

Review by Dragon Speak: 4 Nikon Golf Range Finder Reviews

21FFS17CH7L. SL75 Nikon Golf Range Finder ReviewsI have compared the Nikon ProStaff Laser Rangefinder 440 to a Nikon Prostaff 550 and a Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450, using all three on the same targets.

Note: I have NOT tried these units on a golf course. All three units are made in China.

The Nikon 550 is a very capable laser range finder, and is very similar in ability to the Nikon 440.

The main differences between the two are the slightly greater range of the 550 model.

Despite the understatement of the advertising, I have ranged out to 706 yards with the Nikon 550, and 545 yards with the Nikon 440.

Dark trees can be ranged up to about 400 yards with the Nikon 550, and 330 yards with the Nikon 440. Deer can be ranged to 300 yards reliably with both. The 550 model has a magnification of 6X and the 440 unit is 8X and I greatly prefer the 8X view of the Nikon 440.

Both have a diopter adjustment which is adequate for my eyeglass correction of +5 diopters with and without my glasses.

I also find the long rubber eyepiece of the 550 unit difficult to use if I change to and from eyeglasses, as I do not like to keep folding the rubber down, and I know from experience that you can fold these type of eyepieces only so many times before the rubber (or vinyl) cracks.

Ranging Performance is:

Dark trees: Nikon 550 400 yards, Nikon 440 330 yards

Telephone poles: Nikon 550 430 yards, Nikon 440 360 yards

Deer: unobstructed medium deer, both 300 yards

Dark shrubs: Nikon 550: 400 yards, Nikon 440 350 yards

Light colored buildings: Nikon 550 535 yards, Nikon 440 453 yards

Very reflective targets: trucks, Nikon 550 706 yards, Nikon 440 535 yards

They both acquire targets well and range accurately when compared to other units.

I am biased toward the Nikon 440 unit, because:

1. it is smaller and handier

2. It has 8X magnification which I really like and use (and need)

2. It is adequate for anything out to 300 yards and often 400 yards

3 It costs about 60 dollars less than the Nikon 550

5. The battery compartment screws down 3 turns and seems better sealed than the 1/4 turn compartment of the Nikon 550

6. The optics are virtually the same on both except for magnification. Both are clear and bright.

7. Generally, the range is perhaps 15 or 20 percent more for the Nikon 550 unit due to the higher laser power (15 watts pulse vs the 8.5 watts pulse of the 440 unit).

Other Notes;

The Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 is not anywhere in the same league as the other two, despite the price (I paid 179). The Bushnell will not read beyond 230 yards on any but the most reflective target, despite what the advertising says. The longest range I could measure with it was 330 yards and that on a reflective sign. This unit is supposed to range up to 800 yards (732 meters)! It will range a tree up to 200 yards as claimed, but the best it will do on medium deer is 140 yards. It is a 4 power monocular, and will range down to 6 yards, the others will range as close as 11 yards (M). This Bushnell is by far the lowest quality of any unit I have seen. Bushnell claims water resistance, but there are various entry points for water, and if the unsealed battery compartment is opened, green circuit board is visible. If the rubber eyepiece protector is removed (all too easily) the optics are exposed and vulnerable. There is absolutely nothing to protect the electronics and optics from water and moisture. That along with very poor ranging capabilities make this Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 nothing more than a child’s toy, albeit an expensive one.

Nikon / Callaway LR550 Golf Rangefinder Pearl White – Ladies Edition Reviews

Review by A. C. Macleod: 5 Nikon Golf Range Finder Reviews

21FJYionVkL. SL75 Nikon Golf Range Finder ReviewsAlthough the technology seems much the same as the Bushnell rangefinders (I also have a Pinseeker 1500), these units are slimmed down – both in terms of the size/weight, as well as the interface. One button turns it on, then puts it in scan mode for 8 seconds. This does mean that you have to keep it somewhat steady on the target or you’ll get other distances as well. There are no rain modes or anything like that – just scan mode with “pinseeker” always on. The Bushnell might give you a few more options, but I like this as it gives me what I want and basically nothing else.

Review by MountainGambler.com: 5 Nikon Golf Range Finder Reviews

21FJYionVkL. SL75 Nikon Golf Range Finder ReviewsHaving used GPS on golf courses for 7 years, I was always a strong opponent of laser rangefinders. The biggest complaints being targets have to be visible, only one target distance at a time, and you needed a steady hand.

Nikon’s first target scanning mode makes hitting the flagstick easier, but still requires focus to hit, like hitting a golf shot. If you have shaky hands, I would recommend GPS over laser for sheer ease-of-use and always available distances to multiple targets. Mind you don’t get the to the pin accuracy of laser, but GPS gives continuous yardages from anywhere on the course.

Overall, GPS offers more features and is easiest to use. However, if you need accurate to the pin distances, then laser is your only option. Thanks to Nikon optics and technology, The Callaway laser rangefinder is one of the easiest and most accurate units available.

I’ve played 10 rounds with this and so far, it works great. I liked the white unit over the yellow, but didn’t realize the chevron logo on the neoprene case is made from rhinestones. Bling! -[...]

Nikon ProStaff 550 Laser Rangefinder (Green)

41uwSjuJV0L. SL160 Nikon Golf Range Finder ReviewsBudget-conscious hunters can get the same 550-yard ranging capability waterproof/fogproof integrity and optical performance as with the RifleHunter, but without the ID Technology feature, in the new ProStaff and Team REALTREE 550 laser rangefinders.Stop guessing at distances while hunting or building with the Nikon ProStaff 550 laser rangefinder. Offering absolute precision in the palm of your hand, the ProStaff 550 employs Nikon’s advanced Tru-Target ranging system, which lets users prioritize smaller and harder-to-range lone targets at the push of a button. As a result, it’s easier than ever to range objects as small as fence posts, or get an instant read on that lone buck in the meadow. The unit also relies on Nikon’s advanced ID technology to compensate for various incline or decline shooting angles–up to an incredible plus-or-minus 89 degrees (nearly vertical up or down). And thanks to Nikon’s digital measurement processor, you’ll enjoy speedy 1/2-yard accuracy within 99.5 yards, and 1-yard accuracy from 100 to 550 yards. On the other end of the spectrum, the unit can range as close as 11 yards, so you aren’t restricted to long-distance targets only. Add in such features as 6x multicoated optics, an eyeglass-friendly 18mm of eye relief, a continuous measurement mode, 100-percent waterproof and fogproof construction; and a maximum measurement of 733 yards and you have a comfortable, powerful range finder that leaves its competitors in the dust. Callaway Nikon Rangefinders Reviews

Review by G. WANG: 5 Nikon Golf Range Finder Reviews

31Zj7sUUnDL. SL75 Nikon Golf Range Finder ReviewsMy title says it all.

I like the compact size … pinseeker is too large for me to carry around.

I like its x6 magnification … tour v2 is compact too but only has x5 mag (you will want x6 than x5 mag when you aim at a pin over 300 yards). Also v2′s yardage display is not as clear, big font size, as LR800. I tried my LR800 on a 537 yard hole (almost facing sun), and LR800 picked up the distance to the pin immediately. With a distance like this, x5 can be a little weak, even though v2 has pin seek and claims to go up to 1000 yards. With x6, I just see the green better.

There is no non-sense feature on LR800, such as switching modes (why do I need other modes if I only use this for golfing). I just aim at my target such as pin, bunker, water, etc and the yardage shows up in a second when I press the button. It turns off by itself so that I don’t have to worry about anything.

If you are considering Nikon Monarch 800 or Nikon 800s (almost the same as LR800), the nice thing about these 2 is that you can switch between first target priority mode and distance target priority mode with these two models – good feature if you would use this for hunting. LR800 does not let you switch, but I only use this for golfing and do not want to bother switching, it is prefect for me.

I also like the carrying case of LR800. It is really designed for golfing – you clip it onto your bag, open the lens cover, and you are ready to go. Nikon’s own 2 models come in a pouch, so you will need to take the rangefinder out and put it back … it would make me feel like taking a picture on a golf course, rather playing a round of golf.

LR1200 is good too, but the size is slightly longer than LR800.

Golf Laser Range Finder Caddy 600 Meter w/Battery – Pro Level Quality

312H7%2BiBh8L. SL160 Nikon Golf Range Finder ReviewsNEW In Box Professional Grade Golf Laser Range Finder (Battery Included)!

This High-tech professional Golf Laser Range finder Telescope will accurately measure the range of a target by emitting invisible, eye safe, and infrared energy pulses.
Ideal for any Golfer
The sophisticated technology in this Golf Laser Range finder instantaneously calculates ranges by measuring the time it takes for each pulse to travel from the Range Finder to the target and back. It allows range reading from 15-600 meters. Delivering accurate range performance to +/- one meter.

The maximum range of the instrument depends on the reflectivity of the target. The maximum distance for highly reflective objects is 600 meters (Golf Pin is the ideal target). The color, surface finish, size and shape of the target will affect the reflectivity and the range. The brighter the color, the longer the range. Red is highly reflective, for example, and allows longer ranges than the black color, which is the least reflective color.
